Art, Health, PE

Here are some fun pics of Art, PE, and  Health in the lives of the Lokstet children.

Art
Some 3-D creations by Gemma. A Lego and Friends car.

Keiran built a truck and trailer with his Lego.

The Lokstets love to sing and dance and have been doing so a lot lately. One morning Gemma, Keiran, and their other brothers, got out the box of instruments to accompany mom as she played her guitar. Each kid picked a song or two from our songbook.

The kids tried out the tambourine, recorder, drum sticks, maracas, and wood flutes.

Painting Fall leaves.

Keiran's finished art, sealed in wax paper.

Gemma chose to paint some fun designs.

On the window for display.

PE
Gemma, Keiran, and the rest of the kids (including Grandma), went to a big block party that our church put on. It was full of activities such as bounce houses. Here is Keiran and his big bro in a challenge.

Keiran is very helpful with his little brother. playing on the park.

*Gemma and Keiran love to bike ride and continue to do so daily. They also love to run and race with the neighbors. They have started Soccer Quest as well- it is an hour and a half of skills and games.

Health
The Lokstet kids (Gemma, Keiran, Aiden, and little Finn) have been doing a devotional some mornings. They have picked the Armor of God to be the verse for beginning the year.
They are learning more about money and how to save. They are also becoming quite efficient at their chores which they rotate- bootroom, dishes, vacuuming, laundry folding, dusting, sweeping/swiffering.

Socials and Science in September

We do most of our Social Studies and Science as a group, and our work is catered to age and skill. Here is some of what Gemma and Keiran have been up to:

Science

The Lokstet kids went on a Fall scavenger hunt to observe their habitat (as they call it) in this season.

Gemma's findings.

Keiran's collection.

Keiran collected this grasshopper that wanted out of the project. Haha!

The Lokstet kids have also started their work in Sonlight Science. Gemma is acting as the scribe this year.

Social Studies

Gemma and Keiran did a project about their place in the world. We reviewed the country and province that they live in.

They looked at Canada on the globe and what surrounds it (oceans, USA).

Here is Gemma's completed project (minus pics of the details to our home).

Keiran's turn.

The Lokstet kids have also been listening to Story of the World as we drive many hours to the city a week. They have listened to many stories about things such as the first peoples, mummies, temples, the Israelites, bull jumpers, etc. This is Gemma's coloring of bull jumping- they think it must have been the first gymnastics.

Here is some of the review cards (mostly we are just listening to this resource).

More copy work practice. Keiran is having a bit of trouble with his confidence when writing pages come but has progressed through this month.

Keiran has also been reading Sonlight Fun Tales and is on book number five. This has helped him from being overwhelmed and has boosted his confidence to read.

 Math
Keiran is continuing to work through Math-U-See Primer.

Practicing decimal street: units, tens, hundreds.

He has been learning about number blocks and is matching them with the unit blocks.

More work. Keiran has been working on lessons 10 and 11 this month.

Lesson 11 work. (To save coloring for hours, we just mark our block colors with a line or x.)

Lesson 11 on the next page.

Gemma in September.

It's the end of the month already. Here are some of Gemma's learning samples for English and Math.

Gemma's English
Gemma's Sonlight Grade Two starts with the Beginner's Bible for her reader. Mom loves this fact and Gemma is enjoying it immensely- always asking to read ahead.

Right into Explode the Code 4. Compound words.

Building compound words.

Some more compound words.

Gemma has also been working on word endings; full, ing, est, ness, and ed.

She is able to build a sentence to make sense.

More Explode the Code 4 work. She has done to page 25.

Gemma's Sonlight Grade 2 worksheets.  She has been working on weekly copywork, capitals and punctuation marks, descriptive words, similes, and commas.

An example of a simile about a giraffe.

Gemma is also carrying on with her Veritas Press Phonics Museum workbook which has grown her knowledge of word groups massively. She is now reading very well and has been reading chapter books all summer.

What sound does a y make?

Math
This month Gemma has been working on lessons 3 and 4 in Math-U-See Alpha.

Some review.

She has been learning about +0 equations.
